Charing is situated on the North Downs (chalk downland) in the county of Kent. The Pilgrims Way runs through the village on its way to Canterbury 14 miles away.

In the heart of Charing you will find the Market Place.  Leading off the Market Place is the High Street with its busy shops, the Parish Church, Clewards Meadow - our village Green, Clewards Garden with the analemmatic sundial, the County Library and  the Archbishop's Palace.  Of the original seventeen such palaces in Kent, our  Palace is one of the finest, most complete examples left in the county that is anything like it was when the kings and archbishops visited hundreds of years ago.  There are signs that buildings heve been here for over 8oo years though most remaining buildings are a little later than this.

Much of our parish is within 'Special Landscape Areas' (SLA), 'Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty'(AONB) and/or are within 'Conservation Areas'.  There are several 'Sites of Special Scientific Interest' (SSSIs).

There is much to see and do in the area.

The two pictures above show High Street in the 1920s and the 1990s
